2017 Texas Animal Hall of Fame Call for Nominations
In 1984, the Texas Veterinary Medical Foundation established the Texas Animal Hall of Fame (TAHOF). The Foundation is now accepting nominations for its 2017 class of inductees. If you have treated an animal that has displayed heroism or remarkable loyalty or service, please take a few minutes to nominate him or her for the Texas Animal Hall of Fame.
This TVMF program gives veterinarians and the public a chance to honor and celebrate the human-animal bond. There are three categories for entry:
Hero: An animal who has performed an incredible act of bravery or saved a human life
Companion: An animal who has provided a special benefit to its community or human companions
Professional: A remarkable, specially trained assistance animal
Requirements
Nominees must be animals who, through unselfish and courageous accomplishment, exemplify the affection, loyalty, security and value of the human-animal bond.
Each nomination for membership in the Texas Animal Hall of Fame is to be submitted on an official application with the signature of the animal’s owner/steward and veterinarian. Applications for each year are typically available in June and must be received in the TVMF office by September 15.
Attached to the nomination should be a letter describing why the animal should be considered for induction into the Texas Animal Hall of Fame. You may wish to explain how the animal exhibited special abilities and/or courageous or unselfish behavior, examples of the animal’s affection, loyalty and companionship or the ways in which it provides healthful benefits, confidence or opportunities for exercise, socialization or laughter. The veterinary sponsor may include up to three additional letters of support for the animal’s membership in the hall. At least two to three photos of the animal are also requested.
For this year’s induction class, the actions or accomplishments of the animal must have occurred between July 15, 2016, and July 15, 2017. The animal and its owner must live primarily in Texas. They must also be available to receive the award and participate in the public recognition activities at no expense to the Foundation.
Nomination forms are included on the following page, or you may download an application from HERE. For more information, please do not hesitate to contact the Foundation office at 512/452-4224.
