A Friend Named Pops

Ms. Tammy, a resident of Lubbock, Texas, has been a Meals on Wheels client for some time. She faces daily challenges due to rheumatoid arthritis, which severely affects her back and legs. This condition makes standing and walking incredibly difficult, and the constant pain has rendered her unable to drive. Currently, she is awaiting hip surgery, hoping for some relief and a better quality of life.

Despite these hardships, Ms. Tammy finds solace in the companionship of her beloved dog, Pops. For the past two years, Pops has been receiving veterinary care through our LEAP program. Under the attentive care of Dr. Clary at Live Oak Animal Hospital, Pops has benefited immensely from routine wellness exams. These exams led to the diagnosis and treatment of Pops’ allergies with Cytopoint injections, significantly improving his well-being.

Ms. Tammy’s bond with Pops is a source of great comfort and joy in her life. In a recent client survey, she expressed her heartfelt gratitude: “You guys are very helpful and very appreciated. I like the way some of the volunteers know my name. Thanks for making sure I receive lunch and care for Pops. It helps out a lot. A very big blessing.”

Ms. Tammy’s story is a testament to the impact of compassionate care and community support. Her appreciation highlights the importance of programs like Meals on Wheels and LEAP, which not only address human needs but also ensure that cherished pets receive the care they deserve. Together, we make a significant difference in the lives of clients like Ms. Tammy and their furry companions.
