A LEAP Story: Helping Chloe Thrive

Thanks to the generosity of donors, homebound seniors and their pets are getting the care they need to stay happy and healthy.

Ms. Garza, a Meals on Wheels Central Texas PALS client, recently received veterinary support for her dog, Chloe, through our LEAP program. Chloe was managing obesity, which can affect her overall health and quality of life.

At Chloe’s annual visit, she received all of her vaccines along with a full year’s supply of flea and heartworm preventatives. LEAP partner veterinarian Dr. Ashley Sommers of Austin Vet Hospital also provided Ms. Garza with important guidance on how to properly feed Chloe and maintain a healthy weight. With this education, Ms. Garza is now better equipped to help Chloe lose excess weight safely and maintain a healthy weight moving forward.

For Ms. Garza, Chloe is more than a pet—she is a cherished companion who brings daily joy, comfort, and a sense of purpose. Chloe’s playful moments, warm cuddles, and the simple routine of caring for her brighten Ms. Garza’s days and fill her home with love. Small gestures, like putting a cozy sweater on Chloe when she feels cold, reflect the deep bond they share.

Thanks to donors supporting the LEAP program, seniors like Ms. Garza can continue to enjoy this companionship while ensuring their pets receive the care they need to stay healthy and protected. Every donation helps strengthen the connection between seniors and their beloved pets, improving quality of life for both.
