A LEAP Story: Mr. D and Bucky

Mr. D, lives alone, and Bucky is his constant companion and source of comfort. “He’s my whole world,” Mr. D shared. “I don’t know what I would do without him.” Their bond is built on everyday moments, quiet companionship, and the reassurance of not being alone.

When Bucky needed veterinary care, Mr. D was understandably worried. Through the LEAP program, Bucky was able to receive essential veterinary services, including his rabies vaccination. The relief Mr. D felt was immediate and profound. Not only was Bucky healthy and protected, but the vaccination also ensured that Bucky could continue living with him in their apartment — something that meant everything to Mr. D.

As a homebound Meals on Wheels San Antonio client, Mr. D found tremendous relief through LEAP’s veterinary support. Having access to care for Bucky lifted a heavy burden and brought him peace of mind.

Stories like Mr. D and Bucky’s remind us why LEAP matters. By supporting the human–animal bond, the program helps ensure that beloved companions can stay where they belong. At home, together.
