Lily isn’t just a dog, she’s family. Mr. S has cared for her since she was three months old, and the two are constant companions.

Mr. S is on disability and is only able to work part time, but despite his limited income, he has always done everything he can to keep Lily healthy. When she developed a painful dental infection caused by a broken tooth, he was deeply concerned. Seeing her in discomfort was difficult, and he was determined to find a way to get her the care she needed.

Recognizing both Lily’s medical need and Mr. S’s dedication, veterinarian Dr. Callaghan Hennessey of Penny Paws Richland Hills, stepped in to advocate on their behalf. As a member of the Texas Veterinary Medical Association, Dr. Hennessey applied for the Rusk Veterinary Assistance Grant to help cover the cost of Lily’s dental procedure.

“Having access to Rusk Grants as a TVMA member allows me to help clients who are doing everything they can for their pets but still face financial barriers,” said Dr. Hennessey. “It means pets like Lily don’t have to live in pain, and devoted owners don’t have to feel helpless.”

Thanks to donor support, the Rusk Grant will allow Lily to receive the dental care she urgently needs, including removal of the infected tooth and a deep cleaning, so she can return to a healthy, pain-free life with Mr. S, the person who loves her most.
