Chico Bean’s New Smile

How LEAP and Banfield Foundation Helped a Beloved Pet

LEAP provides veterinary care to beloved pets belonging to Meals on Wheels clients, and sometimes, advanced care and dental procedures are necessary to prolong the animal’s life.

“Chico” Cano is a LEAP pet who recently received a dental in Lubbock from Dr. Ronda Clark at Live Oak Animal Hospital. Chico’s owner, Rosa, has been a Meals on Wheels client since October of last year when she had suffered 2 strokes within 4 months. She is 69 years old, lives alone, uses a walker, and can no longer drive. Rosa also suffers from severe carpal tunnel. She has had several unsuccessful surgeries with another surgery upcoming.

Rosa refers to Chico as “Chico Bean” and describes him as her companion and family member. Chico means the world to Rosa, and knowing his current health needs have been met are a huge blessing to her! Their bond is critical to Rosa’s mental health and overall quality of life. Together, they are a sweet family full of love and companionship.

Chico’s dental procedure has provided many benefits to his health and wellbeing. He is able to eat and play without pain, and dental work helps prevent illnesses including gum disease, gingivitis, tooth decay, and various organ diseases.

Generously supported by a grant from the Banfield Foundation, Chico’s dental work enhances his immediate and long-term health and wellbeing. We sincerely appreciate Banfield Foundation’s commitment to increasing access to veterinary care through LEAP!
