Helping Veterinary Students Through Unexpected Hardship
The Texas Veterinary Medical Foundation (TVMF) responds to urgent crises in an immediate and effective manner by helping meet the financial needs of veterinary students who experience an emergency situation or one-time, unusual, or unforeseen expense during their degree program.
The Veterinary Student Emergency Grant Program is available to eligible students enrolled at:
- Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences
- Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine
The goal of the program is to provide timely financial assistance so students can remain focused on their education during periods of unexpected hardship.
Eligible Emergency Situations
Examples of emergencies that may qualify for funding include:
- Medical, dental, or mental health emergencies
- Major accidents, fire, or natural disasters
- Travel expenses related to the serious illness or death of an immediate family member
- Theft of essential academic or personal belongings
- Sudden loss of employment during the semester
- Unexpected transportation or commuting costs due to illness or injury
- Domestic violence or safety-related emergencies
- Other documented unforeseen financial emergencies
Grant funding is intended for urgent, short-term needs that directly impact a student’s health, safety, or ability to continue their veterinary education

- Awards are generally limited to up to $1,000 per student per academic year
- Students may receive up to two emergency grants during their veterinary school career
- Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis
- Applicants are typically notified within three business days after a completed application is received
