Supporting TVMF Through a Donor-Advised Fund
For Dr. Jayton Bailey, DVM, supporting the Texas Veterinary Medical Foundation (TVMF) is about giving back to a profession that has given him so much and making care and support accessible to those in need.
Dr. Bailey’s connection to TVMF began as a veterinary student when he received a stethoscope from the Foundation, a tradition that welcomes students into the profession. He became even more integrated after serving six years on TVMF’s Board of Trustees.
During his board service, Dr. Bailey had the opportunity to engage with veterinary students, witness disaster response and relief efforts firsthand, see the LEAP program expand into new communities, and hear directly from grant recipients whose lives were changed by TVMF’s support.
“TVMF supports our profession through extensive student support, disaster relief, Rusk Grants, CE program funding and much more,” Dr. Bailey shared. “All of these things contribute to my ongoing support of TVMF and its mission.”
One of the ways Dr. Bailey generously supports TVMF is through a donor-advised fund (DAF).
For him, the convenience of a DAF makes charitable giving easier to incorporate into his financial planning. “My DAF can easily be set up for automatic contributions that streamline the process,” Dr. Bailey explained. “Once I initiate a charitable gift, the DAF handles the rest of it from there.”
When asked what he appreciates most about giving with a DAF, Dr. Bailey highlights the benefits of committing and investing dollars for charitable giving. “DAF is a great tax advantage strategy that allows me to pool my charitable funds into a single income-generating account that grows over time,” he explained. “This then gives me the ability contribute even more to multiple non-profit organizations than if I was just simply using a basic cash checking account.”
However strategic and fiscally-savvy, the true heart of Dr. Bailey’s giving is gratitude.
“God has blessed me in so many ways both spiritually and physically with a good church home, a loving family, and a great profession,” he said. “Generous giving helps take the focus off myself and puts it on others—where it should be. I believe that we are all blessed in some way and should always be looking for ways to help bless others.”
For those considering supporting TVMF, Dr. Bailey encourages them to recognize the collective impact donors can make.
“TVMF has a solid and longstanding mission, experienced leadership, a great staff,” he says. “And the Foundation is in a great position to continue to grow its impact for veterinary medicine in Texas and beyond. TVMF can’t accomplish all these great things on its own, however—it takes all of us who believe in their mission to continue to support it in any way possible.”
