Supporting Students in Crisis: How the Foundation’s Emergency Grant Made a Difference

When unexpected hardship strikes, even the most determined students can find their education suddenly at risk. That’s where the Foundation’s Student Emergency Grant Program steps in, providing fast, compassionate financial assistance to veterinary students facing unforeseen crises that threaten their ability to continue their studies.

Recently, the Foundation was able to help Yasmim, a second-year veterinary student at the Texas Tech School of Veterinary Medicine, who experienced a devastating apartment fire.

“Saturday, my dryer caught on fire. Thankfully, the fire damage was contained, but the sprinklers and firefighters’ efforts flooded my apartment,” Yasmim shared. “Within days, I was asked to move out. I lost my washer, dryer, towels, furniture, bedding, and most of my food due to the power outage. I used my savings and school loans to cover immediate needs, but it wasn’t enough. This grant provided crucial support during an incredibly stressful time and allowed me to refocus on my education.”

Thanks to the Student Emergency Grant, Yasmim was able to replace essential items, secure new housing, and get back on track academically.

These are the moments that remind us why the Foundation exists—to ensure that students can continue their veterinary education despite life’s unexpected challenges. We could not provide this vital support without the generosity of our donors. Your contributions make it possible for students like Yasmim to recover from crisis, regain stability, and continue pursuing their dreams of serving the veterinary profession and their communities.
