Year-End and Planned Giving: Consider Your Foundation

The Texas Veterinary Medical Foundation (TVMF) is the charitable organization dedicated to veterinary medicine in Texas. As TVMA’s philanthropic arm since 1978, your Foundation’s good work is veterinary-friendly and spans from helping people and animals in need to supporting the profession’s future workforce and public relations.

TVMF’s programs include:

  • Memorial Gift Program
  • Veterinary Student Support
  • LEAP: Pet Care for Elderly/Homebound/Low-Income Citizens
  • Rusk Veterinary Assistance Grants
  • Disaster Relief Fund
  • TexVetPets Education and Outreach

Your Foundation also acts a vessel for your philanthropy, helping you further your impact and legacy within the veterinary profession. TVMF’s donor and board-designated funds include:

  • Johnson Memorial Student Emergency Fund
  • Eve Gerome Memorial Scholarship Fund
  • William and Denise Liska Award for Veterinary Surgery Excellence
  • TVMF Earl Waddell Award for Excellence in Emergency Medicine
  • And more!

Every family, business or individual has the opportunity to make a significant difference through TVMF. Whether by supporting existing programming or establishing a restricted fund, you can exercise your philanthropy in veterinary-friendly ways.

Non-Cash Giving

Non-cash often can be the smarter way to give—both for the charity and the donor—and it is just as easy as writing a check. Alternative ways to give back allow you to become equally, if not more, invested in the Foundation’s good work.

We believe in guiding our donors to creating the greatest impact possible in highly personalized ways. Together, we consider you, your interests, the legacy you wish to leave and much more.

  • Wills and Estates. Include the Foundation in your will or estate plans. No amount is too small to leave a legacy.
  • Gifts of Stock. Non-cash giving equals smart giving. Do you have any winners in your stock portfolio?
  • Employer Match. Ask your company if they match donations! Your contribution will likely be doubled.
  • QCDs. Gift directly out of your IRA and reap the tax benefits! Do this before the end of the year for maximum tax savings.
  • Retirement Plans. Simply mention the Foundation as a beneficiary. Yes, it’s that easy!
  • Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs). One in five gifts come from DAFs. Make one-time donations or set up recurring donations using your DAF!

Leave a Legacy

Planning a gift is a way to ensure your values endure and transcend the bounds of time. Your legacy will be honored and remembered forever in the differences your gift will make. This can be done through wills and living trusts, retirement plans, donor-advised funds, brokerage accounts and more. A charitable gift through your will or trust can factor in your current lifestyle and commitments and at the same time ensure future support for TVMF and the profession you value.

The following language provides a template for including a gift to TVMF in your will. Please contact TVMF’s team for additional information. You also may wish to consult with your attorney.
